About Mykonos

Mykonos is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, between Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. Its granite terrain is rocky and wind-swept along the north coast, with soft sandy beaches — including Platis Gialos and Psarou next to the hotel — along the more sheltered south coast.

In Greek mythology the island took its name from Mykonos, grandson of the god Apollo. Over the centuries it passed through Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman rule, and played a role in the 1821 Greek Revolution under the local heroine Manto Mavrogenous.

Since the mid-20th century Mykonos has grown into one of the Mediterranean’s most famous destinations, known for its whitewashed Cycladic architecture, windmills, beach clubs and nightlife, while nearby Delos preserves one of the richest archaeological sites in Greece.
